The pickleball fever has taken the nation by storm, and it seems like everyone's got a hankering for those paddle-swinging rallies. But here's the twist ā€“ we're talking a $900 million twist! Yep. The Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) just dropped some mind-boggling research. They're saying we're gonna need $902 million to whip up a whopping 25,784 pickleball courts. That's like building a whole pickleball metropolis!

Hold your pickleball paddles, there's more. The big cities like New York and Los Angeles? Well, they're lagging 98% behind the national average in terms of courts. Talk about missing the pickleball party! ā€œPickleball isn't just for retirees or country clubbers,ā€ says SFIA CEO and president Tom Cove. Nope, it's an everyone's-invited kinda deal. From schoolyards to rec centers, this sport's gotta be accessible to all.

And guess what, there were nearly 9 million pickleball players last year ā€“ that's a 158% jump from 2019. The South Atlantic region's got the pickleball bug the hardest, with 1.9 million folks caught in the frenzy.

Steve Kuhn, the pickleball maverick, even says that Major League Pickleball's gonna be a top-five sports league in terms of eyeballs glued to screens in the next five years.
