Inspiring story of pickleball player born with no hands

Volleys. Another APP partnership.

Keys To The Game ๐Ÿ”‘

Volley Like a Pro:

Soft Block

Mastering different types of volleys is essential in pickleball, and two common techniques to focus on are the block volley and the punch volley.

The block volley is a defensive move designed to counter your opponent's aggressive shots. Start by positioning your paddle in front of your body, ready to absorb the ball's momentum. Then, make contact with the ball and redirect it into your opponent's kitchen area, ideally resetting the rally.

In contrast, the punch volley is an offensive shot intended to catch your opponent off guard. To execute this technique, use your elbow as a hinge and generate a quick "pop" motion to add power to your shot. Remember to keep your wrist firm, allowing for better control and accuracy.

To ensure successful volleys, it's crucial to maintain the correct paddle position. Keep it raised in front of your body, perpendicular to the ground, and above the net height. Avoid raising the paddle too high, especially above head level, as this increases the risk of returning shots that would otherwise go out of bounds. By keeping the paddle centered, you'll have greater control and be better prepared for any shot that comes your way.

Overcoming Limitations:

One of the reasons pickleball continues to be the fastest growing sport in the country is its inclusivity, allowing people of all abilities to participate. Petey Bruce, born with no hands and one leg, defies his physical limitations and embraces the game's challenges. Joining his friends on the pickleball court, Bruce creatively strapped a paddle to his arm and was instantly hooked.

Bruce's prowess on the court is evident as he dominates opponents with powerful serves and agile movements. Despite his limited reach, he strategically maneuvers, finding angles for precise shots that overcome his physical constraints. This mindset extends beyond pickleball, shaped by his adoptive parents' belief in embracing challenges.

Bruce's life extends far beyond sports, having played football, run a 5K, and mastered the drums. Moving to Orlando with unwavering faith and determination, he now works at Publix, carving his own path. Pickleball has become an essential part of Bruce's journey, providing purpose and an inspiring community.

His story exemplifies perseverance and the ability to excel in the face of adversity. Bruce's presence on the court challenges skeptics and serves as an inspiration to others.
